Fun at the drink and draw

So Luke and I went to the drink and draw at the Tobacco Factory in Bristol. It was loads of fun and super loose.
These are drawn without looking at the paper, I kind of love them.

My drawing of Luke                                                        Luke's drawing of me.

We were also drawing from postcards, so I mixed three of them together. I liked this one the best.

Some art

I made this a while ago for my friend's birthday but was waiting until she got it before posting it online.
As we were going to Disneyland for her birthday I thought it would be good to make her a character sheet of her own.

And this is someone else's character, but I liked her so much I did some fan art. Elle belongs to this lovely lady.

Crazy Thursday: Part 2

So after I had this lovely day I had to rush back into town (which took about 2 hours die to crazy traffic) so that I could get back to my first sculpture workshop.
This is the first of a few so I'll hopefully have more to show you soon.
The first session was on face casting which I've never done before. So, here is my face!

I look rather strained because I am semi claustrophobic and I was desperately trying not to panic underneath the alginate. With only small nose holes to breath out of all I could think of was if I panicked I would faint! But the rest of the casting process was really fun and I think we get another go at the end of the course, I will be braver and pull a better face.
I will be using this cast as a base and intend to build an even more interesting face onto the top of it. We'll see how that goes.

Crazy Thursday: Part 1

So my last Thursday was semi insane but rather brilliant too. I was live drawing most of the day at Venturefest Bristol which took place in a rather beautiful building on the outskirts.

This picture was taken at the end of the day (hence the lovely purply sky)

Lorna Picton organised the live draw part of the business event and I think everyone got really stuck in.
Here are some pictures that I took from the day -
I managed to get three letters done, an 'I', an 'O' and an 'N'

My 'I'

A long and short summer

Well, the winter is definalty rolling in at an alarmingly fast pace. As always summer has not felt like long enough for the list of things I had set out to do at the beginning.
But onwards and upwards.
I did not feel like I did amazingly well at the end of my second year, not as well as I had wanted really. So, this being the ledgendary third year and all, I endevour to try harder.
I have a pretty strong idea for a film which I would like to make this year, but I am feeling a little lost as to what to do afterwards. I bearly have a portfolio or showreel to speak of, through my own doing ofcourse and I'm rather worried about my hireability.
I'm hoping that rejoining everyone else and getting some much needed advice will help.

Anyway, I came across this yesterday and thought it was rather lovely.

Into Disneyland...

A while ago I set myself the challenge of putting my character Neeva into different places in Disneyland. I have a really strong vision of Neverland and did this one first.

Then the last night I wanted to have a go at some more:

Aladin:

The Little Mermaid:

And Nightmare Before Christmas:

Musical!

This year I got myself together and, along with Niomi, joined a musical theatre club. Mainly for fun but a little for fitness too. This year we are putting on Sweet Charity, not one of my favourites I have to say, but I got the part as a main dance so I'm in a lot of it!!! I'm really excited.

A trip to the Museum

We have a really awsome Museum up Park Street in Bristol. I have only been there twice, but I still havn't been the whole way round because I get caught by the huge amount of stuffed animals that are around the place. I swear it would take me days to look around the Natural History Museum in London.
It was a really lovely day actually, we just decided to go and then we spent roughly 5 hours sat on the floor and getting in the way.
I don't know if I can call this life drawing.. as most of them have been dead a very long time. I kind of figure it's ok because they have been donated to the museum not killed especially... Anyway, I love drawing animals and it makes it alot easier when they arn't moving around everywhere.

A couple of days later I scrawled these down on a page, I was impressed as I havn't really been able to draw owls before. Kind of showed me that even a little bit of practice can go a long way.

Brain Food

The tital is probably more interesting that the content here.
On our course we are required to attend Visual Culture, which at first thought was a drain and something used to give art courses more 'credibility'. However, having just attended the first proper lecture of 2nd year VS that has been turned on its head.
I havn't been into uni for a while as we have had an obscene amount of time off, and it was great to get really stuck into this lecture. The tital of the lecture is 'Things' and its about how everything has a meaning/ can be interpreted.
I'm not going into it too much now as we covered a staggering amount, but it really fired me up and I just want to discuss it! Infact when we got home the lecture hadn't finished for us and we talked about it for a good hour after.
I am so glad as it would have been rubbish if it hadn't been interesting, or taught badly.

I need to get some sturcture back into my life. At the moment I am living in three different places. None very far away, but having structure whilst moving around alot is hard. Now that term has resumed I will be a bit more dissaplined in posting things. Especially as for one of the modules we have to create a seperate blog to use as a journal/sketchbook of our progress.
Should be interesting.

It's been a while...

Hello!!! Its 2011 and I have yet to actually post anything!
Loads of things have happened, I turned 21, finished my first semester in 2nd year and found a new house. So mostly a good year, though there was ofcourse lots of drama that followed. I say ofcourse because it seams to follow me no matter how hard I try to be everyone's friend or be mature. But yeah, that's not what I wanted to say.

Niomi and I joined BMCC, which is a Musical Theatre Group in Bristol. They are putting on Sweet Charity this year and we had audition for roles. I wanted to be one of the 8 main dancers and guess what.... I got it!!!! I'm really excited. Will update soon I'm sure.

I don't think we're in Kansas anymore...

So me and my house mate stayed up very late watching Wicked on YouTube, thats right, the whole musical! The actress who played Glinda was incredible! She did alot of cute hopping and twirling. She also used a lot of twinkly spirit fingers. Anyway, I now give you some fan art.

"With a Gahhhhh"

"beautiful"

And because no Oz post would be complete with out her:

What a weekend!

My sister came to visit me in Bristol, a long promised trip (since her birthday in June!!!) We started off by going to see the new Harry Potter film at 11pm with all my flat mates. It was decided by everyone that the film was suprisingly good. I though the pace worked and the actors have stepped it up a gear, finally! There were two suprises in the film. The first being that I found I really like Emma Watson! I thought she looked absolutly beautiful and she was probably the best actor in the film. This is quite a bit thing as I though she was rubbish in the other films and somewhat stuck up in her interviews. But I'm glad she was good, I don't like not liking someone, even if I'm never going to meet them.
The second suprise was the bit of animation that was placed in the middle. I thought it was a good idea but why godness why did they have to do it in poor quality cg!!! Just because it's there doesn't mean you have to use it! It was our opinion collectively (as a house) that the animation should have been done using shadow puppets or chalk and charcol animation. It spoilt it a little bit, especially after the rest of the film was so beautifully shot. I guess you can't win everything though.
Saturday was jam packed with a shopping trip to cabot where I speant a lot of money (oops)
I also managed to get myself a free dinner at a family friends, the best couliflower soup I have ever had, hands down! (I wish I had some right now....)
Then to the Tobacco Factory for the Stroud Theatre's production of 1984. To be honest, I had just said yes so I could see my mum and my brother (I'm such a home bird) and boy am I glad I did. Embaressingly I didn't know what the play was, I have head of it in different forms (V for Vendetta for example) but not by that name.
It was acted out by 8 people, 1 set and some rather beautiful and disturbing animation.
I think it was probably the best thing I have ever seen.
Seven of the actors swapped between narrators and characters, seamlessly and one man played the main character Winston. It was very proper acting, complete with alot of spitting.

There was a scene where Winston is thrown into room 101, the door are on wheels and make a screen behind him. The actor is there for a while but the projection of the animation stays longer and gets more horrible. He is swamed by a sea of rats which cover him wherever he try to escape in the room. Truely it was heartbraking.
I have never cried at a play, but this one upset me to the core and I just wanted to cry until there were no more tears.
